Leitchfield, Ky., native Chelsea Pharris, a rising senior at Transylvania University, won the Fine Arts Purchase Award during the annual Transylvania Juried Student Art Exhibition for her charcoal on paper piece “Wii Controller.”

Pharris’s entry was personally selected by representatives of the Fine Arts program and will be added to the program’s permanent collection of artwork, where it will be displayed in the Mitchell Fine Arts Center. Judges also selected the piece for the Excellence in Drawing Award at the exhibition. The art major is the daughter of Joseph and Rose Pharris.

The Juried Student Art Exhibition is the final exhibition of Transylvania’s Morlan Gallery’s annual schedule. Transylvania, founded in 1780, is the nation’s sixteenth oldest institution of higher learning and is consistently ranked in national publications as one of the top liberal arts colleges in the country.
