Leitchfield residents Chad and Tiffany Durbin were indicted this week on charges related to the murder of 66-year-old Robert Hayes.

The Grayson County Grand Jury on Tuesday, May 9 indicted 39-year-old Chad Durbin on the charges of Murder; Tampering with Physical Evidence; and Abuse of Corpse, stemming from the April 1, 2017 murder of Robert Hayes, of Lebanon Junction.

Chad Durbin was also arraigned on May 9, at which time he entered a plea of not guilty to these charges.

Per Chad Durbin’s arrest citation, filed by the Kentucky State Police (KSP) on Thursday, April 20, Chad Durbin, in a recorded audio and video statement at the Leitchfield Police Department, stated that, on April 1, 2017, he shot and killed Hayes.

Additionally, the arrest citation states that Durbin told police he had shot Hayes seven times with a 9 mm handgun; shot “one or two rounds to the victim’s chest;” then went back into the residence, went back out, and made contact with the victim again, before shooting him again an unknown number of times in the face and head.

Durbin told police he killed Hayes in order to protect his children’s mother, the citation states.

Chad Durbin, whose bail amount was set at $250,000, will next appear in court for a pre-trial conference on Tuesday, June 27.

Chad Durbin’s ex-wife, 35-year-old Tiffany Durbin, was also indicted by the Grayson County Grand Jury on May 9 on the charges of Complicity to Commit Murder; Tampering with Physical Evidence; and Abuse of Corpse, stemming from the investigation into Hayes’s murder.

The indictment states that, on or about April 1, 2017, Tiffany Durbin committed the offense of Complicity to Commit Murder when she engaged in conduct which aided, counseled, or conspired with Chad Durbin in the murder of Robert Hayes.

Tiffany Durbin is scheduled to be arraigned on these charges on Tuesday, May 23.

Per Tiffany Durbin’s arrest citation, filed by the KSP on April 20, Tiffany Durbin told police in a recorded audio and video interview statement that she was with Hayes at his residence, located at 942 Coy Drane Rd. in Leitchfield, on April 1 when she observed Chad Durbin shoot Hayes with a handgun.

Tiffany Durbin stated she then left the scene after Chad Durbin advised her he would “‘take care’ of it,” before returning later the same day to discover that Hayes’s body was no longer there, the citation reads.

The citation goes on to state that Tiffany Durbin later had two acquaintances move a black trailer that belonged to Hayes to her grandparents’ residence on Frontage Road, and, on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, Hayes’s deceased body was located inside the black trailer.

Additionally, an affidavit filed by the KSP for a search warrant relating to this investigation reads that Tiffany Durbin told investigators “a shooting had taken place at her residence located at 942 Coy Drane Road,” and “she witnessed her husband, Robert (Bob) Hayes, being shot by Chad Durbin while on the property but failed to report the incident to police.”

The KSP arrested Chad and Tiffany Durbin on charges relating to Hayes’s murder on Thursday, April 20, after first becoming involved in the investigation on April 19, when Hayes’s body was discovered.
