After a test administered by the Kentucky Department of Revenue in Frankfort last Monday, June 18, 2016, six candidates have emerged for the office of Property Value Administrator here in Grayson County.
The death of long-time PVA Milburn VanMeter last June 20 left an opening which was filled temporarily by Leon Adcock. The Revenue Cabinet has the responsibility of filling the office on a permanent basis and to that end the test was given to identify possible candidates.
Two Democratic nominees passed the test and four Republicans also passed. Jeanna C. Carnes and Sherrie Stinnett represent the Democratic Party, while Jonathan Sherman Decker, Allan Scott Fentress, David D. Gary and Ernie Perkins represent the Republican Party.
The two county parties have scheduled meetings at which they will each pick one candidate who will then face off against each other November 8 in the next general election.
The Grayson County Democratic Party will meet Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016 at 5 p.m. in the old Judicial Building, on E. White Oak St., in Leitchfield. Executive Committee members and Party Officers will vote for the candidate.
Before the vote, there will be a short Meet-the-Nominee Session during which the candidates will be given 10 minutes to speak. The votes will be tabulated by two non-voting members, with the candidate with the most votes becoming the nominee.
The Republican candidate will be chosen by a vote to be held Monday, Aug. 8. The candidate will be chosen by the officers of the Grayson County Republicans and by Precinct Committee Members, and the winner will be announced on Tuesday, Aug. 9.
Each candidate will then file all necessary paperwork with County Clerk Sherry Weedman by 4 p.m. on Aug 9 in order for their names to appear on the ballot.
Inquiries about the process of choosing the candidates can be made to the two parties. For Republicans, contact Jaime Bratcher at 270-741-9479, or Jeremy Logsdon at 270-287-0034. For Democrats, contact Chairman Lester Russell at 270-234-4815, or Charlotte Shaw at 270-259-4607.
