Boat fire injures one

First responders were called to a boat fire off of Rough River’s Cave Creek Boat Ramp on Saturday, June 18 that sent a Leitchfield man to the hospital.

The Falls of Rough Fire Department and Grayson County Emergency Medical Services (GCEMS) were called at 7:51 p.m. and arrived at the scene at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office and the Rough River Corps of Engineers later arrived on the scene to assist first responders.

“The boat was a total loss,” said David Mercer, Falls of Rough Fire Department Chief.

The owner of the boat, John Pharis, was transported from the scene by GCEMS to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center with second degree burns on his chest and lower extremities.

The cause of the fire is currently still under investigation.

First responders cleared the scene at 8:58 p.m.
