Crowds will gather on the beach and the water at Nolin Lake this Saturday, June 21 for the annual Houseboat Hop event.
There are two options for enjoying the lakeside festivities this weekend: by boat or at Wax Picnic Shelter Area.
Boaters are invited to follow the Moutardier Marina Houseboat from the marina to the Wax shelter, beginning at 3 p.m. and enjoy the music playing through the boat’s speakers as well as camaraderie of other boaters joining in.
Glenna Black, with Nolin’s Corps of Engineers said that the “boatercade” will be travelling at a slow pace and should reach the shelter area at around 4 p.m.
On land, campers and visitors may enjoy inflatables, food and shaved ice vendors, swimming, and fishing along with the area’s playground and picnic shelters.
At 5 p.m., there will be a skydiving demonstration, with jumpers landing on top of Barton Run, a cliff-top neighborhood which should be visible to those at the shelter area as well as boaters.
6 p.m. is set as the kick-off time for a live music performance by The Headstones, playing popular tunes from the 60’s and 70’s. The band will perform a two-hour concert.
Those enjoying the concert from the picnic shelter area are encouraged to bring along chairs and coolers are welcome as well.
Black encourages everyone to remember to bring along sunscreen and to drink plenty of water.
“We want to encourage families and friends to just come out and enjoy a great time at the lake,” Black said.
