BETHALTO — Authorities Friday charged a Bethalto man with attempted first-degree murder after he allegedly threw gasoline on a female victim and lit it on Thursday.

Charged was Michael R. Euler, 34, of the 500 block of Strohbeck Lane. Authorities said no one was hurt, but police did not release any further details.

A spokeswoman for the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office said authorities do not know why Euler allegedly attempted to kill the victim. “He was agitated,” the spokeswoman said. Details of how the victim escaped injury were not available.

Bail was set at $500,000. The Madison County Jail has no record of Euler.
