Grayson County Jailer Darwin Dennison has announced that he will step down from his position as head of the Detention Center effective May 30.

Dennison is nearing the end of his second term as jailer, which was slotted to finish in December; however, in a letter which he issued on Thursday, May 22, he wrote, “I am resigning my position as Jailer and moving on to enjoy another phase of my life - retirement.”

“It is never easy to leave something behind that has played such a large part in your life for so many years,” Dennison wrote, “But we know as we move on that your detention center is in sturdy, capable hands and that it will continue to be an example for others across the state to follow.”

A replacement for Dennison will be appointed by the county and will serve from May 31 through December of this year.

Dennison said, “All good things must eventually come to an end and now it is my time to turn your detention center over to someone who is ready to lead it into the future.”

In closing, Dennison’s letter read:

You are too numerous to mention by name but for everyone who has been a part of these last eight years, for all those who were there for us on the sunny days and through the stormy weather, and especially to our family and friends, we would like to say a heart-felt “Thank You”. We have been humbled by your faith and raised up by your prayers.
May God bless you all just as we have been blessed.
