The Caneyville City Commission recently approved an application for a 2014 Land and Water Conservation grant that would help purchase new playground equipment for the City.
The Commission held a special meeting/public hearing on Wednesday, March 19 to allow citizens to express their opinions on the grant, as well as determine what specific playground equipment will be purchased if the City receives the grant.
The 2014 Land and Water Conservation Grant, if received, will cover 50 percent of the nearly $15,000 cost of the new playground equipment, which will be installed at Caneyville’s new ballpark.
The City will pay for the other 50 percent of the playground equipment cost.
During the meeting, Caneyville City Clerk Connie Gootie presented two quotes for playground equipment options, both of which were from Miracle Recreation of KY & TN and totaled approximately $14,342.
The Commission passed a motion to apply for the Land and Water Conservation grant with the intent to purchase a play structure and a spinner, if the grant is received.
The other option included a play structure, three three-row, fifteen-feet-long aluminum bleachers, and two six-feet-long, PVC coated, permanent benches.
