Family Video will launch its annual Round it Up for Lymphoma fundraiser this Friday, March 14.
Family Video, the University of Chicago Medicine’s Lymphoma Tissue Bank, and the Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF) have joined forces for the fundraiser, which asks Family Video customers to round up the change from their transactions to the nearest dollar, the additional change from which will benefit lymphoma research.
Leitchfield Family Video Store Manager Jeff Nottingham said in 2013, Family Video as a whole raised $1.2 million for lymphoma research, and the Leitchfield store raised a total of $1,200.
This year, Nottingham said, the store’s fundraising goal, as set by the company, is $1,500; however, Nottingham’s personal goal for 2014 is $1,750.
To meet this goal, the Leitchfield Family Video has scheduled a number of other fundraisers in the month of March, in addition to Round it Up For Lymphoma.
Nottingham said that, starting Monday, March 17, the Leitchfield Family Video will sell NCAA basketball tournament brackets at the cost of $5 per bracket.
All proceeds from the sale of these brackets will benefit lymphoma research, and the person who predicts the most winning teams as well as the championship winner will receive a one-year, half-off Family Video membership for free. The second place winner in the bracket contest will receive a six-month Family Video membership. And the third place winner in the bracket contest will receive a three-month Family Video membership.
The Leitchfield Family Video is also hosting a raffle that will feature between 20 and 25 items donated by various local businesses. Raffle tickets cost $1 each.
The Leitchfield Family Video will, in addition, host a yard sale with items donated by customers, employees, and local businesses on Saturday, March 22 from 7 a.m. to noon.
And finally, the Leitchfield Family Video will host a bake sale, which will take place all day on Saturday, March 29.
All proceeds from the raffle, yard sale, and bake sale will benefit lymphoma research.
According to a letter from Family Video, lymphoma is the most common type of blood cancer in adults and third most common in children. More than 500,000 Americans are living with a form of lymphoma, and 200 more are diagnosed every day.
