A Leitchfield family lost their Carson Street home to a Wednesday afternoon blaze.

The residents of 905 Carson Street were not at home when the fire began, according to Leitchfield Fire Department representative Roy Hack, who said that the flames appeared to have originated in the kitchen of the residence.

An exact cause for the fire has not been determined.

Two pets - a dog and a cat - were inside the home when firefighters arrived on scene, and were removed from the residence by first responders who worked to save the animals.

Both pets were later taken to a veterinarian for treatment of smoke inhalation, and, according to Hack, both survived the ordeal.

The house and items inside, however, were severely damaged by smoke and flames, Hack said. “The family won’t be able to go back for a while.”
