Leitchfield united Methodist Church - The Rock
201 W Main St
On March 5, 1924 A. G. (Major) and Pansey Hamilton were blessed with a beautiful baby girl who they named Arietta Pansey. She was named after a character in a Louis L’amour novel and her mother.
Arietta grew up in Big Reedy with her brother A. G. (Graff), and her sisters Norma Faye and Ann. She attended school at Sunfish and loved playing basketball.
Arietta married Sim Houchin on Oct. 5, 1946. They had two children, Mike and Gail. In 1956 they moved to Grayson County and lived on a farm located at Mulberry Flats until 2006.
Arietta became a member of Mt. Vernon C. P. Church after moving to Grayson County and has been an active member there ever since. She has been a Sunday School teacher, worked in Vacation Bible School and Church Camp. Arietta also served as an elder for Mt. Vernon C. P. Church.
Arietta worked at NAPA Auto Parts as a bookkeeper in the 70’s, took college classes at WKU and in 1980 opened Busy Bee Sewing Center. Above all, Arietta has been a wife and mother not just to her family but to all those who needed her. She still continues to play a big part in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives. And she still loves basketball - especially the University of Kentucky.
After Sim’s death in 2006, Arietta lives with her daughter and son-in-law at 324 Sequoia Drive, Leitchfield, 42754.
A birthday celebration with family and friends will be held on March 1, 2014 at 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. (CST). If you are unable to attend but would like to send birthday wishes, please send them to the address above.
