February 4, 2014

Grayson County High School’s Academic Team has been crowned District 12 champions in Governor’s Cup competition. A first place finish in Future Problem Solving, second place in Quick Recall along with individual honors, was the winning combination to earn a berth at Regionals. District 12 consists of teams from Grayson, Edmonson, McLean and Ohio counties.

Individual award winners include: Math - Jamison Brashars, first place, Jacob Hart, second, Jackson Henderson, fifth; Social studies - Noah Coles, second place, Bradley Hicks, third; Language Arts - Jessica Hughes, third, and Sam Embry, fourth; Arts & Humanities -  Brandie Davies, fifth place; Written Composition - Trevor Jones, first place, and Jessica Johnson, second.

As host school for District 12 competition, Coach Sharon Sloan called on staff and students alike “to highlight our successes to the guest schools,” even as weather played havoc with the tournament schedule.

Special programs and artwork welcomed visitors to GCHS. FCCLA advisors and students catered meals both evenings. Teachers, staff and administrators all volunteered in a variety of ways. Sloan was appreciative of the Board and High School support of the academic team as well as the “staff throughout our entire district that worked together in extreme weather conditions to ensure our tournament was a success.”

Regional competition will be held Feb. 15 at Breckinridge County High School.
