Another round of freezing weather, snowfall and the resulting icy roadways caused cancellations across the county this week.
Schools were closed and community events and meetings were cancelled, while local law enforcement offices and the Kentucky Department of Transportation sent out advisories to let area residents know that driving in these conditions could be hazardous.
Leitchfield Police Department asked drivers to stay off of roads “unless necessary,” while the KDT made motorists aware of hydroplaning hazards resulting from snow piles along roadways obstructing water flow off of the roads.
Drivers were also urged to exercise extreme caution when operating their vehicles near snow and ice trucks, which may make unexpected movements.
According to Sheriff Rick Clemons, few significant vehicle accidents have occurred during the most recent bout of ice, though a number of non-injury accidents were called in.
