One female college student was injured in a two-vehicle accident on New Year’s Day (Wednesday, January 1).

At around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Leitchfield Police and Fire Departments, and Grayson County Emergency Medical Services responded to a two-vehicle accident near 3200 Brandenburg Road in Leitchfield.

According to GCSO Chief Deputy Tony Willen, a 2001 Kia Rio, driven and owned by Noelle Roach, 20, 0f Leitchfield, was travelling south on Brandenburg Road, and the brakes were squeaking.

Roach reported to police that she tapped her brakes and noticed smoke as she lost control of her vehicle, according to the GCSO accident report.

The Kia then left the roadway, over-corrected, sideswiped a 2010 Ford F150, left the roadway again, and came to a rest after striking a culvert beside the road, Willen said.

Roach was taken by GC EMS to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center to receive treatment for minor accident-related injuries.

None of the Ford’s occupants reported any injuries as a result of the accident.

The Kia was removed from the scene by Donnie’s Towing, and the Ford was removed from the scene by Carl’s Towing.
