Clarkson Preschool teacher receives national certification

Clarkson preschool teacher Amy Mattingly has joined the ranks of National Board Certified Teachers.

Mattingly has taught preschool for nine years, eight of them at Clarkson. She had considered returning to college for an upper level degree, but became intrigued with the NBCT process, not only for the professional value, “but how much impact it has on student learning,” she said.

The program was challenging, but also encouraging. “It made me think differently about how I present the material.” Getting students interested first, so they want to learn and so they have fun learning, results in “true learning.”
