A Leitchfield man has been arrested and charged with sodomizing and sexually abusing a child over a period of 14 years from the late 1970’s through 1990.

58-year-old Henry R. Mattingly, of Parkview Drive in Leitchfield, was recently indicted in Grayson Circuit Court on charges of sodomy in the first degree of a victim under the age of 12, and sexual abuse in the first degree of a victim under the age of 12.

Court documents read that the alleged victim was four years old when the abuse began in January of 1977. The purported sodomy and sexual abuse continued on until December of 1990, just after the victim turned 18.

Documents accuse Mattingly of engaging in both “sexual contact” and “deviate sexual intercourse” with the minor, who is now in his/her 40’s.

Trooper Jeff Gregory, with Kentucky State Police said on Friday that while he was not immediately familiar with this case, crimes like these often go unreported for long periods of time, and that this is likely the reason Mattingly was not charged with these alleged offenses before now.

Mattingly was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center on a $10,000 cash bond, but is currently not listed as an inmate in the facility.
