Eugene Cain, of Clarkson, officially joined the Leitchfield Police Department on Monday, November 18.
A lifelong resident of Grayson County, Cain, 42, will leave for the police academy on Monday, December 2.
Cain will graduate from the police academy in April, 2014, and, during breaks from the academy, he will be working the streets of Leitchfield with another officer.
Cain, who tested with the previous LPD administration and passed, said he chose to join the LPD out of his desire to serve and protect the public.
Leitchfield Chief of Police Kevin Henderson said Cain’s reason to become a police officer is shared by all police officers.
“He has the general concern just to help people,” said Henderson.
Cain’s familiarity with the community will also help him as a Leitchfield police officer, Henderson said.
“Leitchfield is a good place to police,” Henderson said. “People here want to be policed by someone they know.”
Cain also owns Center Court Food Mart in Leitchfield and has two children and one grandchild, all of whom live in Grayson County.
