Grab your cape and head to the nearest phone booth because the first ever Superhero Family Fun Run is almost here!

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana is hosting the fun-filled and family-friendly event next Saturday, Oct. 19, beginning at 5 p.m. at James Beville Park in Leitchfield.

The organization’s website invites locals to “come for the run and stay for the fun,” and the event is sure to offer plenty of excitement for young and old alike.

The run/walk around the park’s walking trail will have a variety of ‘Super Stations’ set up where participants can pause to gather superhero memorabilia like stickers, rings, tattoos or for a photo op with their favorite superhero.

A special event area dubbed ‘Superhero City’ will also be set up for anyone wishing to purchase snacks or refreshments following the run or during the showing of the movie The Avengers on the ‘Super Screen’ set up at the park.

Little superheros will take home a commemorative Superhero Fun Run Cape, while adults can choose between a cape or a high-performance running shirt.

The sign-up cost for adults is $20; kids ages three through 12 can join in the fun for $10; and those under three can participate for free. Family deals are also available for a discounted rate of $50.

Participants may register online in advance at www.SuperHeroFamilyFunRun.com or on the day of the event, beginning at 5 p.m. at the park.

The event will raise funds to set up mentoring matches of volunteer adults and the children who need them. The money raised will assist with creating these matches and supervising them to be sure the kids are receiving the most benefit possible.
