The 80th annual Caneyville Fair, held from Wednesday, October 2 through Saturday, Oct. 5, was a success in spite of rain on its final day.
Organized by the Caneyville Community Club (CCC), an all-volunteer, non-profit organization, the 2013 fair received the theme “Golden Reflections - a look back in time” in honor of its 80th year.
“We had a good fair,” said CCC President Deborah Lambert. “We appreciate everyone coming out and [taking] part and making it what it was.”
For the 2013 fair, the CCC added a number of new features and events, the most successful of which being the Caneyville-hosted Price is Right, Lambert said.
A first year, crowd participation event based on the television game show, The Price is Right closed out the Fair’s festivities on Saturday night and brought out a crowd despite rain throughout the day.
”The Price is Right was a big hit,” Lambert said. “The consensus is that we’ll probably continue that next year.”
The annual Caneyville Parade had a good turnout and showing on Friday, Oct. 5, as well.
“We ran out of numbers before it was time for us to start judging the floats,” Lambert said of this year’s parade.
The Caneyville Fair serves as the CCC’s only fundraiser, and 100% of the proceeds raised from the fair go back into the Caneyville community, said Lambert in a previous interview.
As of press time, the total funds raised during the 2013 fair had not yet been tallied, Lambert said.
