The GCMS 8th grade boys team played host to incoming Frederick Fraize of Cloverport on Thursday night. It was a very pleasant miniature homecoming for the Cougars. Grayson County started the game on a 21-0 run thanks to stellar defensive play and a plethora of fast break points. Zeb Bratcher #13 led the way for the Cougars early on in the first quarter with a team game high 9 points that included an end of quarter buzzer beater that absolutely set off the rocking crowd in the middle school gymnasium. The score after one was 27-2.

In the 2nd quarter, we saw a frantic Cloverport team ratchet up their defense. The Cougars were finding it more difficult to score now that Frederick Fraize was taking care of the ball. Coach Majors looked to get big man Hunter Majors going and boy did they ever. The team consistently fed Majors the rock deep underneath of the basket in the second quarter, where he saw tremendous success against the smaller Cloverport lineup. If Majors wasn't scoring, he was getting fouled. In back to back trips, he landed made baskets resulting in and-ones. The game by this time was getting out of hand and the score at the half was 38-6.

To start the 2nd half of play, we saw more of the same from both teams, but this was likely the most difficult offense quarter for the Cougars. They were held to 8 total points while allowing Frederick Fraize to only score a single bucket. Hunter Tomes led the way in the 3rd scoring all 8 of the team's points.

The 4th quarter turned into an absolute slugfest. Sure, by now the score was well out of reach, but Cloverport led by Conner Lagadinous, rung home an additional 10 points, more than doubling their output through the first 3 quarters. At one point, Cougar Chase Richardson nailed back to back to back three pointers that seemingly drove the nails through the coffin and closed the chapter on the evening. The final score on the night was 59-18, Cougars.

The boys next home game is next Friday evening at 5 p.m. vs rival Edmonson County.
