The Grayson County School Board held its April meeting at Clarkson Elementary School last Thursday night, April 12.

Grayson County Schools Assistant Superintendent Mitch Crump will retire at the end of the current fiscal year, officials confirmed Thursday.

Crump started as Assistant Superintendent around the same time as Doug Robinson took over as Superintendent, and the agenda for the Thursday, April 12 Grayson County School Board meeting included Crump's notification of resignation, effective June 30, 2018.

Though Crump has only worked for Grayson County Schools for a few years, he has had a long career in education, through which, he said, he has accrued enough time to be able to retire at the end of this fiscal year.

Crump said prior to Thursday's meeting that he has enjoyed his time at Grayson County Schools, and his decision to retire was not an easy one.

Crump cited his desire to spend more time with his family as the primary reason for his decision.

Robinson said Crump has been "a great asset" during his time with Grayson County Schools thanks to his experience, and he has enjoyed the opportunity to get to know him.

The position of Assistant Superintendent must be advertised for 30 days, so, Robinson said Thursday night, that it would likely be two or three weeks before the school district begins vetting applicants.

In other business:

Robinson said the schools hope to bid these projects out within the next few weeks.
